Five habits to protect your home from evil

For Muslims it’s essential we protect our home from shaitan (satan) and make it a place of tranquility and blessings for our family. Follow these 5 important habits to protect your home.

1. Say Bismillah

Upon entering and leaving your home always mention the name of Allah. This not only brings blessings into your home, but also protects your house from Satan. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“If a person mentions the Name of Allah upon entering his house or eating, Satan says to his followers: “You will find no where to spend the night and no dinner.” (Sahih Muslim)

2. Give Salaam

Spreading Salaam upon entering the house is a means of blessing you and the members of your household.
“When you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah, blessed and good”. (Quran 24:61)

3. Read Surah Al-Baqarah

It is very beneficial to recite all Surah Al-Baqarah in your home. If you’re unable to do so, you should at least recite Ayat Al Qursi at night daily. The Prophet ﷺ informed us that:
“The Shaytan flees from a house in which Surah Al Baqarah is recited.” (Sahih Muslim)

4. Read Ayat Al-Kursi (Quran 2:255)

“One who reads Ayat Al Kursi before bed will have a guardian protecting him and Satan will not approach him until dawn.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

5. Pack up the house

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Before going to bed lock your doors, cover your water jugs, close your food containers and extinguish your lamps.” (Al-Bukhari)
Mention Allah’s name when doing all of these actions to protect your home from Satan.
