We thank Allah and send peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
How do I persist on performing the Sunnah or Prophetic actions?
The persistence on Sunnah acts is part of preserving our religion
Because the Sunnah is complementary to the Book of Allah SWT
Unfortunately, people associate the Sunnah with voluntary extra actions
So you hear them say,
Sunnah is performing two extra prayers after Maghrib prayer,
And the remembrance (Dhikr) after prayers,
And so and so…
There are Sunnah acts that are acts of worship and
There are Sunnah actions which are considered natural instincts
Like cutting one’s nails, growing your beard…
These Sunnah actions are part of human’s natural instincts
As per Sunnah as a form of worship, there are different levels of those
But the Sunnah acts I want to discuss are those that are performed in our daily actions
So people start seeing the Prophetic ways through my daily dealings and actions
That people witness a portion of the light of the Prophet ﷺ
In my words, actions, movements, and dealings
So people would start saying this Person is Muslim
This person is treading on the Prophetic path of Muhammadﷺ
This person has a connection to Allah because
He resembles the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ
Some of the pious predecessors have reached such
A high level in performing these Sunnah acts
Like Sahl Ibn Abdullah may Allah send mercy upon his soul
He used to refrain from eating watermelon
And people would ask him, why and if there is something wrong with the watermelon
And he’d say that he hadn’t received any knowledge of
How the Prophetﷺ used to eat it
Oh, Allah, these people have reached a very high status
Abdullah Ibn Umar was once on his camel’s back
And he made a full 360 degree turn with the camel
When asked why he did that
He said that he saw the Prophet ﷺ do that so he did the same without asking why
Umar Ibn Al-Khattab used to say to the Black stone whenever he sees it
I know that you are a stone and you can’t benefit or harm anyone
And if I hadn’t seen the Prophet ﷺ kissing you I would never have kissed a stone
There are certain things in life that we have to accept
Submitting and surrendering to them
Submitting like our Prophet Ibrahim
When his Lord said to him,
“Submit”, he said “I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds.”
(Quran 2:131)
Oh Allah make our hearts surrender to your will
And help us to follow the Prophetic Sunnah.
Peace and blessings be upon you
