Before you think you’re too busy for your parents
This short reminder takes a look at how often we assume that we are ‘too busy’ for our parents and loved ones. We should also never overlook our transgressions towards our parents thinking that Allah will leave them unpunished. In fact, the transgressions we commit against our parents today are more than likely to have repercussions in this life before the hereafter, if we do not repent. The Prophet ﷺ said:Many scholars have deemed that one of the punishments for disobedience to parents in this worldly life, is that Allah will make your children treat you in the same disrespectful way. Allah states in the Quran:بابان معجلان عقوبتهما في الدنيا: البغي والعقوق
“Two doors will hasten their punishment in the worldly life, oppression and disobedience to parents”.
“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.” Quran 17:23May Allah make us of those who uphold the rights of our parents and attain the pleasure of our parents in this life and the next.
