DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT: Evaluating AI Responses to Muslim-Related Queries
In a recent analysis by OnePath Network, the performance of two prominent AI language models, DeepSeek and ChatGPT, was compared to assess their accuracy and potential biases when addressing topics pertinent to the Muslim community.
Introduction to DeepSeek
DeepSeek, a new AI model developed in China, has rapidly gained attention, becoming the most downloaded free app in the United States within a week of its launch. This swift rise has prompted discussions about its capabilities and how it measures up against established models like ChatGPT.
Evaluating Responses: OnePath Network Inquiry
The first query posed to both AI models was, “Who are OnePath Network?” DeepSeek provided a comprehensive and accurate description, stating that OnePath Network creates videos, articles, and other multimedia content focusing on Islamic teachings, lifestyle advice, and discussions relevant to Muslims globally. It also highlighted the platform’s engaging and accessible approach, particularly for younger audiences and those new to the faith.
In contrast, ChatGPT’s response contained inaccuracies, incorrectly identifying OnePath Network as a U.S.-based organisation. While it acknowledged the platform’s engagement with youth and the broader community, the geographical error indicated a gap in its knowledge base.
Addressing Sensitive Topics: Nick Fuentes’ Comment
The AI models were then asked to respond to a statement by Nick Fuentes, who claimed that “Muslims have dark energy.” DeepSeek approached the topic by suggesting ways to foster understanding and counteract generalisations. It emphasised the importance of recognising the diverse contributions of Muslims to art, science, culture, and society throughout history.
ChatGPT took a more direct stance, labelling Fuentes’ comment as an example of bigotry and stereotyping. It underscored the unfairness of making sweeping generalisations about any group.
Discussing Public Figures: Elon Musk’s Salute
When questioned about Elon Musk’s awkward salute at an inauguration, ChatGPT described Musk as known for his unconventional approach and occasional awkward social moments, suggesting that the incident might be overanalysed due to his prominence.
