The Future of Madinah and the Rise of Greater Israel
In our latest discussion with Ustadh Wahaj Tarin, we explored the eschatological significance of Israel and Palestine in Islamic tradition. Our conversation delved into the prophecy concerning the rebuilding of Bayt al-Maqdis, the destruction of Madinah, and the unfolding events that lead to the end of times.
The Rebuilding of Bayt al-Maqdis
Ustadh Wahaj explained that, according to Islamic tradition, the rebuilding of Bayt al-Maqdis will set off a chain reaction leading to significant global events.
The Hadith states:
“The building up of Bayt al-Maqdis will culminate in the destruction of Madinah, and the ruin of Madinah will mark the beginning of the great wars.”
Abu Dawud
He highlighted that the Zionist movement is actively working towards reconstructing the Temple of Solomon, which they believe will usher in the arrival of their Messiah. However, from an Islamic perspective, this event aligns with the emergence of the Antichrist (Dajjal), a figure prophesied to deceive many and lead humanity into a time of great tribulation.
The Decline of Madinah
One of the most striking insights Ustadh Wahaj shared was the prophecy regarding the decline of Madinah. He explained that the destruction of Madinah may not be physical but could manifest through depopulation, abandonment or an engineered catastrophe. The Hadith suggests that Medina will remain beautiful and prosperous yet will be vacated by its inhabitants.
“You will leave Madinah when it is in its best state. The last two men to enter it will be shepherds and upon leaving, they will drop dead at its outskirts.”
This suggests that an external force—perhaps biological, chemical, or neurological—will render the city uninhabitable. The destruction of Madinah, according to Ustadh Wahaj, will mark a turning point in Islamic history, leading to the rise of righteous leaders who will restore justice before the arrival of the Mahdi.
The Reality of Greater Israel
Ustadh Wahaj also addressed the political ambition behind the Zionist vision of Greater Israel, a territorial expansion that extends beyond the current borders of Israel into Jordan, Syria, and beyond. He pointed out that Israeli soldiers and politicians have openly displayed maps of this vision, and their policies on the ground indicate a gradual but systematic expansion.
He noted that the same people who object to the phrase “from the river to the sea” are pushing for a far greater territorial annexation. The systematic ethnic cleansing, land confiscations and military aggression are not merely about control over Palestine but part of a broader effort to reshape the Middle East.
Preparing for the Trials Ahead
With the coming of Dajjal being the greatest trial humanity will face, Ustadh Wahaj emphasised the importance of spiritual and mental preparation. He reminded us of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) guidance to recite Surah Al-Kahf, which provides lessons on faith, resilience and seeking refuge from corruption.
He also stressed the need to strengthen our Iman, build righteous communities and foster courage in standing for truth. Just as the Companions of the Cave found protection through their faith and companionship, we must seek strength through our connection to Allah and the support of like-minded believers.
Our discussion with Ustadh Wahaj was a sobering reminder that history is unfolding according to divine decree. While the plans of the oppressors seem overwhelming, we remain steadfast in our trust that Allah’s promise of justice will prevail. The events leading to the end of times are unfolding before our eyes, and as believers, we must remain vigilant, informed, and spiritually prepared for what lies ahead.
