Purifying The Heart
“It was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
‘Which of the people is best?’ He said: ‘Everyone who is pure of heart and sincere in speech.’ They said: ‘Sincere in speech, we know what this is, but what is pure of heart?’ He said: ‘It is (the heart) that is pious and pure, with no sin, injustice, rancor or envy in it.’”
So how do we make our hearts pure? How do we look after our heart?
Allah has given us ways in the Quran and Sunnah to work on our hearts.
“Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray – for him there is no guide.”
Purifying your hearts can be achieved through reading and contemplating the Quran.
“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah’s hearts are assured.”
Repentance is another way to work on your heart. If you have a persistent sin, Ramadan is the perfect time to repent and stop committing that sin for good insh’Allah.
“…Allah loves those who are constantly repentant…”
Praying your obligatory prayers is essential to purifying your heart..
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself. And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
Make the Prophet’s Duaa
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say in his prayer:
“Allahumma inni as’aluka at-thabbuta fi al-amr wal-‘azimata ‘alar-rushdi wa as’aluka shukr ni’matik wa husna ‘ibadatik wa as’aluka qalban saliman wa lisanan sadiqan wa as’aluka min khairi ma at’lamu wa author bika min sharri ma at’lamu wastaghfiruka lima ta’lam
(O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all my affairs and determination in following the right path, I ask You to make me thankful for Your blessings and to make me worship You properly. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the best of what You know and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.)”
The Prophet ﷺ has taught us that:
“There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.”
So let us work on our hearts this Holy Month and #ReviveRamadan 🙂
