An Islamic School teaches Australians about Ramadan
Westfield Hurstville shopping centre has not only created a place of convenience to purchase necessities, but has also worked hard to create a sense of community. This year, it invited the children from a local Islamic school, Arkana College, to share some traditions and experiences throughout Ramadan. By designing a colourful and fun pop up stand to celebrate Ramadan, shoppers were able to ask questions about the Islamic month of fasting and communicate with the children, creating a safe space of connection and conversation. This event also created the opportunity to share some facts about fasting in Ramadan and the history of Muslims in Australia which was presented through flyers. The school designed an interactive daily countdown of each day of fasting, giving the students an opportunity to present their creative skills and develop confidence.
