Israeli security forces have recently introduced new security restrictions on Masjid Al Aqsa. These new stringent measures include barricades and metal detectors that all worshipers must pass through prior to entering the Masjid.
In protest to the new sanctions, the Muslim Community of Jerusalem and local worshippers have refused to pray in the Mosque. Director of Masjid Al Aqsa, Omar Al Kiswani states that such restrictions are nothing more than an exploitation of the Muslims and attempts to further inhibit worshippers from attending the Masjid.
“We will not enter (the Masjid), as those responsible, we will not enter. And neither will we surrender Masjid Al Aqsa in the face of this exploitation”, he said in an interview to Arabia TV.
The new measures come two days after the Israeli forces had closed down Masjid Al Aqsa, completely blocking out all worshippers from attending. This was the first time in 48 years that the Masjid had been closed down in such a manner, whereby Friday Prayers, congregational prayers and the call to the prayer were all restricted.
Masjid Al Aqsa is the third holiest Mosque in Islam and it is incumbent Muslims do what they can to ensure the safety and security of this Holy precinct.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is narrated to have said:
“A mount is not saddled (for a journey) except to three Masajid: Al-Masjid Al-Haram, this Masjid of mine, and Masjid Al-Aqsa.”
(Tirmidhi) Sahih.
