The Ugly Face of Cancel Culture

In 2020, I think it’s fair to say that Cancel Culture has taken social media by storm. YouTubers, Celebrities, Influencers, and even your favorite Sheikh isn’t safe from being cancelled. Cancel Culture is basically a new movement that sees the public empowered by the tools of social media call-out people of influence for committing wrongs. It can result in people being boycotted, de-platformed, and completely shut down from the public. And while we definitely see the function of canceling people that are a threat to the public and pose a significant risk to the vulnerable in society, there is a hidden underside to cancel-culture we want to speak about. What we are seeing today is the emergence of a culture that gloats over watching people fall. A culture that sees us gain satisfaction in exposing people’s sins. A culture that sees us scrupulously sift through a person’s every action, every word, in hopes of finding damning faults. A culture whereby we enjoy the limelight of attention in being the first person to reveal the latest gossip regarding the next person’s sins. If anything needs to be canceled, it’s this. We hope you enjoy the video.
