Faith, Resistance and the Fight for Justice

The ongoing genocide in Gaza has shaken the global Muslim community to its core. As Israel continues its brutal assault, the world’s powers remain complicit, offering little more than empty words while continuing to fund and arm the occupation. In a powerful discussion, Imam Omar Suleiman sheds light on the hypocrisy of the American political system, the unwavering resilience of the Palestinian people and the moral responsibility of Muslims worldwide.

Gaza: A Portal to the Heavens

Imam Omar describes Gaza as a place where a portal to the heavens has opened. More martyrs are ascending from this small strip of land than anywhere else in the world. Yet, amid the bloodshed, the people of Gaza embody a faith that is unshaken, a patience that is unparalleled. Their struggle is not just for survival but for justice, dignity and liberation.

Referencing the Quranic verse,

“Do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving sustenance”

Qur’an 3:169

He reminds us that the martyrs of Gaza are in a place of ultimate victory. The believer holds a unique perspective—able to feel grief over the oppression yet joy in the martyrdom of those who have been taken unjustly.

The American Political Illusion

For decades, American Muslims have been told that their vote matters, that democracy is the answer. Yet, the bipartisan support for Israel’s crimes exposes the reality—America’s political system is held hostage by the Zionist lobby. Imam Omar does not mince words when he calls the US and Israel two faces of the same imperialist coin.

He points out the sickening display in Congress, where Benjamin Netanyahu, a man facing genocide charges, received standing ovations from politicians across party lines. Each round of applause was a reminder that every American taxpayer is complicit in funding the bombs that rain down on Gaza’s children.

With another presidential election looming, Imam Omar questions whether Muslims should continue participating in a rigged system. Should they organise a national write-in campaign? Support a third-party candidate? The answer is not yet clear, but one thing is—Muslims must be strategic, principled and willing to hold leaders accountable.

Faith in Action: A Muslim’s Role

When asked how Muslims should respond to such overwhelming injustice, Imam Omar draws a powerful parallel. The Prophet ﷺ endured years of witnessing oppression against his people. He saw Sumayyah, the first martyr in Islam, being brutally killed. He heard the cries of starving children during the Quraysh boycott. He faced years of powerlessness—yet he never lost faith in Allah’s plan.

Muslims today must adopt the same steadfastness. There is no room for despair. Every prayer, every boycott, every voice raised against oppression matters.

The Prophet ﷺ assured us, “You will be with those whom you love.”

Bukhari

Loving the people of Gaza means standing with them, supporting their resistance and refusing to remain silent in the face of tyranny.

A Message of Hope

Despite the devastation, Imam Omar reminds us of the certainty of Allah’s justice. The Day of Judgment will be a reckoning for the oppressors. The martyrs will stand before their Lord, dragging their murderers to divine justice. The tyrants who once stood on podiums receiving applause will be reduced to dust under the feet of the believers.

Gaza will be free. It is not a question of if, but when. And when that day comes, those who stood on the right side of history will rejoice. Until then, our duty is clear—remain steadfast, keep fighting and never lose faith in Allah’s promise.
