He continues to fight for the right to an education for all refugee children.<\/span>\n\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not many teenagers can say they founded a school, let alone be a refugee who experienced the horrors of war, and resided in a cramped camp in Lebanon. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Meet Mohamad Al Jounde<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/h2>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9990 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Meet-Mohamad-Al-Jounde..jpg?resize=611%2C348&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"611\" height=\"348\" data-wp-pid=\"9990\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Meet-Mohamad-Al-Jounde..jpg?w=611&amp;ssl=1 611w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Meet-Mohamad-Al-Jounde..jpg?resize=300%2C171&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Meet-Mohamad-Al-Jounde..jpg?resize=400%2C228&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 611px) 100vw, 611px\" \/>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He first founded the school when he was 12 years old, in Bekaa Valley refugee camp in Lebanon. After experiencing the brutal and impersonal reality of the Syrian war, Mohamad and his family decided to flee and seek refuge in the nearby country, Lebanon. Once they had settled, the family quickly lost majority of their funds. Consequently, his father had to move to Sweden to financially support his family, as there weren\u2019t any job opportunities in Lebanon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Mohamad had lost his country, family, friends and eventually his father, <\/span><b>he did not despair nor lose hope<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n&nbsp;\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like many other refugees, Mohamad was not able to go to school for the first 2 years in Lebanon. However, he never lost his motivation to help others that were in a more desperate situation. By combining his passion for children, education and rebuilding communities, he started classes in a small camp for the children. So, at the age of 12, he began teaching them mathematics, English and his greatest passion, photography!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<blockquote><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery child has the right to education, to develop, to dream big and to enjoy life. Every child has the right to learn, has the right to try to go to school, so for me this is what I\u2019m fighting for.\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mohamad Al Jounde<\/span><\/blockquote>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9992\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/camera-kdis-syria.jpg?resize=614%2C311&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"311\" data-wp-pid=\"9992\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/camera-kdis-syria.jpg?w=614&amp;ssl=1 614w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/camera-kdis-syria.jpg?resize=300%2C152&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/camera-kdis-syria.jpg?resize=400%2C203&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What began in a tent, has now become a real building, with formal teachers, more than 200 children and a variety of subjects and grade levels!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Four years later, the world responded.<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now 16 year old Mohamad, continues to fight for the rights to an education for all refugee children. Last month, he was announced the winner of the <\/span><b>International Children\u2019s Peace Prize of 2017. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award was presented by Malala Yousafzai, a children\u2019s education rights activist, who stated at the event, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs Mohamed knows, Syria\u2019s future depends on its children \u2013 and their future depends on education.\u201d Along with this incredible recognition, he was granted a scholarship that gave him an opportunity to go to school, including earning a university degree, as well as living costs for his entire family.<\/span><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9993\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/nobel-prize.jpg?resize=427%2C291&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"291\" data-wp-pid=\"9993\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/nobel-prize.jpg?w=427&amp;ssl=1 427w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/nobel-prize.jpg?resize=300%2C204&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/onepathnetwork.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/nobel-prize.jpg?resize=400%2C273&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Why we should be talking about Mohamad Al Jounde.<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sometimes, living in a developed country, it is normal to forget the easy life that we live. Growing up, basic necessities are always available, and education is considered a norm. However, the reality is that everything we have is an incredible blessing from God, that we must continuously be thankful for. It is important to remember that Syria&#8217;s civil war is almost in its 8th year and more than 2.5 million Syrian children are refugees. Most of these children have poor or no access to healthcare, nutritious food or education. If Mohamad Al Jounde can initiate change from a haphazard refugee camp, then imagine what we can do with the touch of a finger! We are capable of so much, and we have access to the best of technology and education. So, stay in school and fight for your education. Work hard and continue to be inspired by your passions, regardless of any obstacles you might face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Mohamad was asked what his long-term plans are, he replied \u201cThe future is unclear and uncontrollable, so I stopped worrying about that.
