{"id":9600,"date":"2022-01-26T12:18:00","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T12:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/?p=9600"},"modified":"2022-07-21T03:49:24","modified_gmt":"2022-07-21T03:49:24","slug":"six-ways-to-win-friends-from-the-sunnah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/au\/the-prophet\/six-ways-to-win-friends-from-the-sunnah\/","title":{"rendered":"Six ways to win friends from the Sunnah"},"content":{"rendered":"<amp-jwplayer layout=\"flex-item\" height=\"600\" data-player-id=\"bKajWAhe\" width=\"700\" data-media-id=\"IWLJbRJK\" class=\"wp-block-amp-amp-jwplayer\"><\/amp-jwplayer>\n\n\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six ways to win friends from the <a href=\"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/au\/category\/the-prophet\/\">Sunnah<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many around the world have read the best-seller \u201cHow to Win Friends and Influence People\u201d by Dale Carneige, but how many are actually aware of the striking similarities one could draw between his book and the practices, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunnah<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of the <a href=\"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/au\/category\/the-prophet\/\">Prophet Muhammad<\/a> \ufdfa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a Muslim, this comes as no surprise, considering the fact that we know very well that the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa had mastered the art of interacting and dealing with people, far beyond the capacity of any other human.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Allah explicitly mentions in the Quran:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u0648\u064e\u0625\u0650\u0646\u0651\u064e\u0643\u064e \u0644\u064e\u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649\u0670 \u062e\u064f\u0644\u064f\u0642\u064d \u0639\u064e\u0638\u0650\u064a\u0645\u064d\u06e2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd you (Oh Muhammad) are of excellent moral character\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/quran.com\/68:4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quran 68:4<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ve compiled a list of a short selection of Dale\u2019s recommendations along with the practices of our Messenger that correspond accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Mention their name.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet always placed great value on the names of those who surrounded him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On many occasions, he would even change the names of those with disreputable names to names of nobility.[1]<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><\/b> <b>Always smile.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet was always seen smiling in the face of his companions.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ibn Jaz is narrated to have said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I have not seen anyone <\/span><b>who smiled more than the Messenger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Allah \ufdfa.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAllah&#8217;s Messenger \ufdfa never refused me permission to see him since I embraced Islam and <\/span><b>never looked at me but with a smile.\u201d<\/b><b>[3]<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jabir bin Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Every good is charity. Indeed, among the good is to <\/span><b>meet your brother with a smiling face<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and to pour what is left in your bucket into the vessel of your brother.&#8221;[4]<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><b><\/b> <b>Have a genuine interest in them.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet also showed interest in all those around him, including young <a href=\"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/au\/the-problem-with-childrens-films-today\/\">children<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On one occasion he asked a young boy about his sparrow, nicknamed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nughayr<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after it had passed away.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anas ibn Malik said, &#8220;The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to mix with us to the extent of asking a younger brother of mine, &#8216;Abu &#8216;Umayr! What has happened to the little sparrow?'&#8221;[5]<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another narration tells of an instance whereby the Prophet was led around the city of Madinah by a young girl. Although he was incredibly busy at the time, he stayed with the girl until she had completed her tour.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anas ibn Malik reported: Any of the young servant girls among the people of Medina would take the hand of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and lead him wherever she wished.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sahih Bukhari<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abu Hurayrah also reported that a black man or a black woman used to take care of the mosque, then he or she died. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked after him (or her) and was told that he had died. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said: \u201cWhy did you not inform me? Show me his grave (or her grave).\u201d Then he went to the grave and offered the funeral prayer over it.\u201d[6] <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><b><\/b> <b>Appeal to their wants.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the Prophet would never compromise his duty to uphold the religion of Allah, he would at times encourage people to do good deeds by informing them of the great rewards they would receive in return, whether they were rewards of this life or the next.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the Prophet encouraged one of his companions to renounce worldly desires by informing him that he would gain the love of God and people.[7]<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><\/b> <b>Avoid unnecessary criticism.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa was known for never getting angry over worldly matters and had always advised others towards patience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anas Bin Malik who lived in service to the Prophet for over 10 years mentions that the Prophet had never said a word of disapproval to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI served the Prophet \ufdfa at Medina for ten years. I was a boy. Every work that I did was not according to the desire of my master, but he never said to me: Fie, nor did he say to me: Why did you do this? or Why did you not do this?\u201d[8]<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet\u2019s wife Aisha also narrated that the Prophet would never express displeasure over food that was brought to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet \ufdfa never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it.[9]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is not to mention that the Prophet lived a life of extreme hardship and poverty, enduring many months at a time without basic food.[10] <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Always acknowledge them<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa would always express his thanks and gratitude to the good done to him and others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He would even continue to acknowledge them for years on end. For instance, he would send gifts to the family of his late wife Khadija as a sign of gratitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In one narration, the Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe who does not thank the people has not thanked Allah\u201d.[11] <a href=\"https:\/\/sunnah.com\/abudawud:4811\"><em>(Sunan Abi Dawud)<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He \ufdfa also emphasised this in another narration:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhoever receives a favour <\/span><b>should respond to it right away<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if he can find him. If he cannot, he should praise him.
