Six steps to overcome being arrogant<\/b><\/h1>\nIblees (Satan)<\/span><\/i> was the first to show arrogance towards Allah and his creation. When Allah commanded Iblees to prostrate to Adam, he refused and was arrogant, and said, \u201cI am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.\u201d <\/span>\n\nWe all want to have the right intentions and achieve higher spiritual levels without the characteristic of being arrogant drag us down.<\/span>\n\nSo here are 6 tips to help you overcome being arrogant<\/span>\n

Understand the severity of being arrogant<\/b><\/h2>\nThe Prophet <\/span>\ufdfa <\/span>said, \u201cNo one who has an atom\u2019s-weight of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.\u201d <\/span>\n\n(Sahih Muslim)<\/span><\/i>\n

\u00a0Realise your humble origins.<\/b><\/h2>\nAllah repeatedly admonishes us in the Quran to reflect on our humble origins and acknowledge our limited abilities.<\/span>\n\n\u201cHas there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned?\u201d<\/span>\n\nQuran 76:1<\/span><\/i>\n\n\u201cWas he not a drop of ejaculated semen?\u201d <\/span>\n\nQuran, 75:37<\/span><\/i>\n\n\u201cIndeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.\u201d<\/span>\n\nQuran 17:37<\/span><\/i>\n\n

Realise the greatness of God<\/b><\/h2>\nPride is a characteristic befitting God alone, as mentioned in the Quran.<\/span>\n\u201cAnd to Him belongs all grandeur within the Heavens and the Earth\u201d<\/span>\n\nQuran 45:37<\/span><\/i>\n\nThe Prophet \ufdfa \u00a0said, \u201cMight is His garment and pride is His cloak; (Allah states) whoever seeks to compete with Me concerning them, I will punish him.\u201d<\/span>\n\nIbn Al-Qayyim says, \u201cHumility comes from knowing about Allah, His names, attributes and His overall Greatness. Also from knowing one\u2019s self, one\u2019s faults and one\u2019s weaknesses.\u201d<\/span>\n\n(<\/span>Kitab Al-Ruh, p. 233.)<\/span><\/i>\n

Remember your shortcomings<\/b><\/h2>\nAllah admonishes us in the Quran to avoid self-glorification:<\/span>\n\n\u201cSo do not claim yourselves to be pure, He is most knowing of those who fear Him\u201d.<\/span>\n\nQuran 53:32<\/span><\/i>\n\nWe should always remind ourselves of our sins and always look up towards those better than us to improve.<\/span>\n

Spread Salam to the people<\/b><\/h2>\nThe Prophet <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\ufdfa <\/span>said, \u201cThe one who initiates the <\/span>Salaam<\/span><\/i> greeting is free from pride\u201d<\/span>\n\n(Bayhaqi)<\/span><\/i>\n
