Is the Quran really a book of peace?<\/span><\/h1>\nSo many times we hear ‘Is the Quran really a book of peace?’\u00a0<\/em>in debates, arguments, topics and various discussions. We would like to help you answer this question through this post. So without further ado;\n\nIs the Quran really a book of peace?<\/span><\/i>\n\nThat is the question we set out to answer and quite frankly it\u2019s a question on the minds of many around the world. Sceptics, Non-Muslims and Muslims alike.<\/span>\n\nTo anyone who reads the Quran, particularly in Arabic, they will quite often come across the word \u201c\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645\u201d <\/span>(Salaam)<\/span><\/i> or the many different derivatives of it. This is the specific Arabic word for \u201cpeace\u201d, and it occurs over 40 times within the Quran. <\/span>\n\nBut let\u2019s look at this a little deeper than the question of ‘Is the Quran really a book of peace’.<\/span>\n\nTo the surprise of many, the very word for peace or \u201cAl-Salaam\u201d is a name from the many names of Allah, God Almighty, explicitly mentioned in the Quran.<\/span>[1]<\/span> Muslims understand this name as referring to God as the ultimate source and provider of peace.<\/span>\n\n

Is the Quran really a book of peace?<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\nIn other verses, God will also implore Muslims to greet one another with \u201cpeace\u201d as their own unique greeting.<\/span>[2]<\/span> In fact, He asks us on multiple occasions to use this very same word for peace when confronted by those who are ignorant and unfriendly.<\/span>[3]<\/span>\n\nGod will also frequently use the word peace to illustrate His Garden of Paradise, which is the ultimate abode of tranquillity and rest in the afterlife.<\/span>[4]<\/span> To be specific, the exact phrase \u201cPeace\u201d will repeatedly be said to the inhabitants of Paradise from God Himself<\/span>[5]<\/span>, the Angels<\/span>[6]<\/span> and amongst one another.<\/span>[7]<\/span>\n\nGod will also use the word \u201cPeace\u201d when invoking praise upon the various Prophets, Messengers and pious people of the past. Whether it be the Prophet Muhammad<\/span>[8]<\/span>, Jesus<\/span>[9]<\/span>, Abraham<\/span>[10]<\/span>, Noah<\/span>[11]<\/span>, Moses<\/span>[12]<\/span>, Yahya (John)<\/span>[13]<\/span> or the believers in general.<\/span>[14]<\/span>\n\nIn fact, when God describes His mission for humanity and His ultimate call, He explicitly says that He calls towards \u201cthe abode of peace\u201d.<\/span>[15]<\/span> In another verse, He states that He guides towards \u201cthe path of peace\u201d.<\/span>[16]<\/span>\n\nAnd lastly, God will even use the word peace when describing the various rulings pertaining to war, whereby He explicitly implores the Muslims towards peace, if the opposing side inclines towards it.<\/span>[17]<\/span>\n\nQuite clearly, peace is an overwhelming theme that is well repeated throughout the Quran in many different instances. The Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa too would also illustrate the sheer importance of peace throughout many occasions. For example in his well-known supplication, \u201cOh Allah, you are peace and from you is peace\u201d<\/span>[18]<\/span> and of course, his well-renowned plea towards the Muslims to \u201cspread peace\u201d amongst one another.<\/span>[19]<\/span>\n\nAll these examples provide a clear indication that the ultimate goal of the Muslim in this life and the next is to achieve the status of peace.
