\n\n<\/div>\nA new report has highlighted the extent of Islamophobia in Australia.\nThe report was carried out jointly\u00a0by the Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilisation, Charles Sturt University and the Islamophobia Register of Australia.\n\nSome of the findings were as follows:\n\nThe majority of the victims of Islamophobia were women who wore the headscarf.\n\nOne in three female-victims had their children with them at the time.\n\nThe majority (98%) of perpetrators were white Anglo-Celtic, and were three times more likely to be male.\n\nVerbal assaults were the most common while physical harassment came in second.\n\n48% of Islamophobic attacks occurred in crowded spaces such as shopping centres and train stations.\n\nMany of the attacks occur in front of children and a large amount of bystanders. 75% of the time no one intervened.\n\nMany online incidents of Islamophobia were also documented, which included threats of violence and harm.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
