Protests against new citizenship law in India<\/h1>\nOn Dec 12, 2019, India passed a Citizenship Amendment Act which sparked outrage and protests all throughout the country. The amendment to the Citizenship Act gives priority to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians resident in India before 2014, but excludes Muslims, including minority sects.\u00a0<\/span>\n\nThis discriminatory bill amassed a lot of protestors and rightfully try to force the authority to amend this act of racism and give Muslims the same rights.<\/span>\n\nDuring the protests, police attacked students and minors beating them up and threatening them. They also vandalized universities and beaten up students in their dorm rooms, libraries and in public places. These attacks took place in Jamia Millia Islamia University, Aligarh Muslim University, Nadwa University and Jawharlal Nehru University.<\/span>\n\nCurrent Muslim residents are facing harassment and intimidation and are afraid of losing their own citizenships themselves. The whole situation of the country is at unrest.<\/span>\n\nMore than 200,000 people protested in North India alone, and Police crackdown and brutality continues.<\/span>\n\nThe UN Human Rights office condemned the law as \u201cfundamentally discriminatory in nature\u201d.<\/span>\n\nMay Allah bring peace and prosperity to our brothers and sisters suffering immensely in India.<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
