{"id":11793,"date":"2018-10-15T21:15:44","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T10:15:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/?p=11793"},"modified":"2021-04-15T06:30:37","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T06:30:37","slug":"blind-paralympian-was-disqualified-for-wearing-the-hijab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onepathnetwork.com\/au\/news\/blind-paralympian-was-disqualified-for-wearing-the-hijab\/","title":{"rendered":"Blind Paralympian was disqualified for wearing the hijab!"},"content":{"rendered":"<amp-jwplayer layout=\"flex-item\" height=\"600\" data-player-id=\"bKajWAhe\" width=\"700\" data-media-id=\"g6L1IKE3\" class=\"wp-block-amp-amp-jwplayer\"><\/amp-jwplayer>\n\n\n<h1>Blind Paralympian was disqualified for wearing the hijab!<\/h1>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the moment a young Indonesian girl was forced to choose between her hijab and her sport.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She chose her hijab and ended up being gifted an umrah ticket<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blind 21-year-old Miftahul Jannah trained for 10 months to compete in the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games\u2019 judo tournament.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, minutes before competing, she was told she would have to remove her scarf in order to continue. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After refusing to remove it, she was disqualified from the tournament.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The president of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee blamed the embarrassment on the judo teams coach.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the coach claims the rule was only put in place the day before the tournament.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the disappointing incident, a friend of Miftahul said she was likely not to compete in the sport again.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite this, many Indonesians took to social media to congratulate Miftahul on her difficult decision.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hearing of the incident, the country\u2019s House of Representatives rewarded Miftahul with a ticket to Umrah<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response, Miftahul said, <\/span>\n<blockquote><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am truly elated.
