This man is petitioning the Australian government to free his wife from China<\/span><\/h1>\n

Almaz Nizamidin, an Australian Uyghur Muslim, last saw his wife in March 2017 when he went returned to China to visit.<\/span><\/p>\n

A month later she was arrested and sent to a concentration camp. She was 2 months pregnant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Uyghurs are a Muslim minority who mainly live in the Chinese province of Xinjiang, or East Turkestan.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are facing widespread discrimination and oppression for their faith.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a UN Human Rights committee,<\/span><\/a> up to 2 million Uyghurs have now been detained in concentration camps, also known as \u2018re-education camps\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

In these camps, detainees are forced to denounce their religion, chant propaganda slogans, and are deprived of food and sleep, <\/span>according to an escaped detainee Omir Bekali.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Nizamidin\u2019s wife, who was 2 months pregnant at the time, was sentenced to 7 years in one of these camps.<\/span><\/p>\n

He does not know where she is, or what has happened to their child.<\/span><\/p>\n

His petition, which expires on Wednesday, calls on Parliament to find out what is going on.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Another petition has been organised to bring awareness to the concentration camps.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
