How does the Qur\u2019an view women?<\/span><\/h1>\n\u201cYaqeen Institute for Islamic Research is a research institute which aims to instill conviction and inspire contribution based on mainstream Islamic texts.\u201d<\/span>\n\nIn today\u2019s age, the status and rights of women in society have never been more in the spotlight. Millenia long traditions like Islam are today accused of being unjust in their treatment of women, and Muslims are faced with the challenge of staying true to their faith whilst responding to these criticisms.<\/span>\n\nA critical factor in this challenge is properly understanding the way that Islam actually views women. To do this, we can go to back to the fundamental source of Islamic law, which is the Qur\u2019an.<\/span>\n\nHere is a list of the different teachings the Qur\u2019an holds regarding men and women.<\/span>\n

    Women are equally human<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    \u201cO humankind! We have created you from a single male and female, and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.<\/span>\n\nIndeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.\u201d <\/span>\n\n[Qur\u2019an 49: 13]<\/span><\/blockquote>\n

      Women are equally eligible for salvation<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \u201cAllah has promised the believing men and believing women gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, <\/span>\n\nand pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence; but approval from Allah is greater. That is the great attainment.\u201d<\/span>\n\n [Qur\u2019an 9: 72]<\/span><\/blockquote>\n

        Women are equally eligible for reward<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \u201cWhoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while a believer\u2014We will surely cause him to live a good life, <\/span>\n\nand We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.\u201d<\/span>\n\n [Qur\u2019an 16: 97]<\/span><\/blockquote>\n

          Women\u2019s lives are equally inviolable<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \u201cAnd when the infant girl [who was] buried alive is asked, for what sin she was killed.\u201d <\/span>\n\n[Qur\u2019an 81: 8-9]<\/span><\/blockquote>\n

            Women are equally able to promote good<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            \u201cThe believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah<\/span>\n\nand obey Allah and His Messenger. Those Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.\u201d<\/span>\n\n [Qur\u2019an 9: 71]<\/span><\/blockquote>\n

              Women are a sign of God\u2019s Mercy<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
