When we pray sometimes in can be hard to concentrate, subhanallah, during prayer a lot goes through our minds. “What did my mum make for lunch?”, “Did I lock my car?”, “I might have snack pack after prayer.”
Concentration in Salah
But it is important to have concentration (khushoo`) during prayer, because while you are praying you are facing Allah and communicating, and thanking him. However, it can be very difficult at times to do so, due to the fact the Shaytaan (satan) is trying to divert your mind away from the remembrance of Allah.
Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying, “Any one performs ablution and performs the ablution perfectly and then offers two rak’ahs of prayers concentrating on them with his heart and face but paradise will necessarily fall to his lot.” Sunan Abu Dawud
Ways to improve your concentration in prayer is to, remember death whilst praying, and that this could be their last prayer before they meet Allah, envision the Kaaba in front of you while you are praying, another way could be imagining the Gates of Jannah is in front of you.
The Prophetﷺ said, “Remember death when you pray, for if a man remembers death when he prays, he will strive to make his prayer good. Pray the prayer of a man who does not think that he will ever pray another prayer…” Saheeh al-Jaami
Focusing on what you are reading can be a good way to improve your concentration, while you are reading focus on the meanings of the words, and if you don’t understand Arabic, try to focus on your tajweed while prayer.
“It is the believers who are successful: those who are humble in their prayer”
Quran 23:1-2.
Try to be mindful of Allah when you are praying and focus on Him.
