Over 5 million Uyghur Muslims have passed through China’s concentration camps and that number comes from China itself. With mosques locked, the hijab banned, and an entire language being erased from children’s mouths, East Turkistan is facing a slow, silent genocide the world has largely stopped talking about. So why aren’t we listening?
We sat down with Uyghur activist and journalist Aslan Hidayat back on the OnePath Network podcast for the second time to find out what’s really happening on the ground: leaked audio smuggled out of East Turkistan, Chinese influencers caught posting two different versions of the same video, families separated by surveillance and forced labour, and the transnational repression targeting Uyghur communities here in Australia. This is the crisis hiding in plain sight.
