This is the testimony of Bosnian genocide survivors Amir Mujkanovic, Ernest Kulauzovic, Mirsada Helac and Selmo Suljic, alongside Tarik Begic, the Sydney born son of survivors, recounting the siege of their cities, the destruction of Ottoman era mosques, and the forced march through Serbian held territory during the Bosnian war. They describe a mother who refused to let her son be taken from a truck line, a former neighbour who intervened to save him, and a grandfather who walked back into the forest to find his missing son and was never seen again, leaving behind only a Quran. One survivor still does not know where his brother’s body lies. Another describes the moment he had to tell his mother the truth about who did not make it back. Decades on, they describe fathers who hid their grief in silence, and the quiet moment of locking an empty family home for the last time.
